League leaders Leeds Rhinos denied by Wigan Warriors

Leeds Rhinos miss out on the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Super League table having lost 18-14 against against Wigan Warriors.

Leeds Rhinos have been missed out on the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Super League table having fallen to a 18-14 defeat at the hands of Wigan Warriors.

The Cherry and Whites were up and running with 15 minutes played when Anthony Gelling crossed the whitewash, before Matty Smith kicked over the extras.

Smith was on target once more shortly after to successfully convert a penalty, but Leeds were back in the contest when Ryan Hall added his side's first try of the night on the half-hour mark.

Wigan regained their points cushions before the interval, however, courtesy of Blake Green who found the try line on 38 minutes.

Michael Mcllorum and Carl Ablett crossed over within four second-half minutes of each other to ensure the contest was still alive, while Hall added his second try of the afternoon with 15 minutes remaining, leaving Kevin Sinfield to kick over and cut the deficit to just four points.

The Rhinos were unable to find a way through again though, as Wigan held out for the victory which moves them within three points of Leeds in the table.
