Warrington Wolves release captain Joel Monaghan with a year still remaining on his contract.

Warrington Wolves captain Joel Monaghan has been released from the club with a year still remaining on his contract.

Australian Monaghan, 33, is one of six departures as head coach Tony Smith continues with his radical overhaul of the club.

Simon Grix will join the club's coaching staff, while Gareth O'Brien and Roy Asotasi are released. Wolves also confirmed that Richie Myler and Chris Bridge will join Catalans Dragons and Widnes Vikings respectively.

"While I have expressed our gratitude for each individual, collectively I'd like to thank each of the players for their commitment to the club and wish them well," Smith told Wolves' official website. "We will always welcome them back in the future."

Monaghan, who joined the club in 2011, scored a prolific 141 tries in 143 appearances.
