Tony Smith pleased with battling Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith hails his team for putting in a dogged performance to beat Catalans Dragons in the Super League.

Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith has hailed his team for 'digging in' to beat Catalans Dragons in Super League.

The Wolves made a return to winning ways on Friday night as they recorded a 26-18 triumph at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Smith believes that a dogged performance during a scrappy clash was at the heart of their victory.

"I'm really proud of my boys to hang in there and dig in and scramble like they did when we were broken. We scrambled well I thought and that was a good part of our game," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I thought both sides were scrappy with the ball and defensively and that's what you get when you have games in quick succession after short turnarounds and when you have too many they catch up on you and you get scrappy games like [this].

"We held onto the ball better than them in the second half and that was the message at half time that whoever hung onto the ball the longest was probably going to win."

Warrington continue their Super League campaign on June 14 when they will travel to Huddersfield Giants.
