Keiron Cunningham relieved by St Helens win

Coach Keiron Cunningham admits that St Helens made hard work of their late win over Huddersfield Giants.

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has admitted that his side made hard work of their dramatic victory over Huddersfield Giants in Super League.

The Saints kept pressure on leaders Leeds Rhinos last night as they earned a 35-34 triumph at Langtree Park thanks to Luke Walsh's late drop goal.

However, Cunningham believes that his players could have run out comfortable winners were it not for some slack defending during the match.

"We had plenty of opportunities to run away with the game comfortably, but you just can't gift sides of Huddersfield's calibre that many chances," he told the club's official website. "A lot of stuff they scored we invited them down our end with dropped balls and penalties. We were disappointing.

"We're glad of the win and glad we hung on in there. It was cat and mouse - we score, they score - and that was the flow of the game. We got the points and they will be valuable in the run in. We have plenty of work to do this week."

St Helens continue their Super League campaign on July 16 when they travel to Warrington Wolves.
