Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly among a number of clubs who hold an interest in signing Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna.

Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The West Midlands outfit currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table having accumulated just 10 points from their 15 matches.

However, after initially being turned down at the start of their managerial search in October, Wolves have recently appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new head coach.

The Spaniard arrives at Molineux having held roles with his national team, Real Madrid and, most recently, Sevilla, who parted company with him at the start of last month.

Lopetegui has already acknowledged that he wants to sign a number of new players during the January window, with Real Madrid pair Nacho and Mariano Diaz among the players who have been linked with a switch to England.

According to Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, Lopetegui is also interested in a reunion with another former player in the shape of Acuna.

The 31-year-old has been contracted to Sevilla since September 2020, contributing two goals and 10 assists from his 92 appearances in all competitions.

Acuna has made 10 starts and four substitute outings this campaign, but he has not played 90 minutes for the La Liga outfit since September 6.

Although over two-and-a-half years remain on his contract, it appears that a number of clubs are ready to target the Argentina international at the turn of the year.

That is allegedly due to Acuna being informed by Sevilla that he is free to find a new team as they look to rebuild under Jorge Sampaoli.

Villarreal, Inter Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt are also said to be contemplating whether to make an approach for the versatile left-sided player.

While the former are said to be the favourites, Wolves have the benefit of having a manager who signed Acuna at Los Nervionenses.

Wolves already have a number of options in that area of the pitch, including Rayan Ait-Nouri and youngster Hugo Bueno who went into the World Cup break as the chosen option in that position.

As the players in question rest up ahead of the resumption of action on December 20, Acuna is currently gaining game time at the World Cup with his national team, playing the full 90 minutes during the 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday.
