Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Steven Fletcher will not recover from a calf injury in time to face Wigan Athletic at the weekend.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be without striker Steven Fletcher for Wigan Athletic's visit to Molineux on Sunday.

Manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that the 24-year-old is making progress in his recovery from a calf injury, but the weekend's fixture will come too soon.

"He is all right. He is coming on but he won't be ready for the weekend," McCarthy told the Birmingham Mail. "The hope was he would be training this week but I don't think so. It's unlikely.

"He has to strengthen his calf.

"The last thing I would want to do, despite the importance of the game, is to use a player as important as Fletch is, and get a little bit out of him and find out that he is injured when he has got two weeks after Sunday before we have another game."

The complaint has forced Fletcher to miss his club's last four matches.
