Klaus Allofs: 'Wolfsburg confident of Champions League progress'

Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs admits that his side got the draw that they were hoping for when being paired with Gent in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs has admitted that his side got the draw they wanted when Gent came out of the hat for the Champions League last 16 this afternoon.

The Belgian side finished second behind Zenit St Petersburg in the group phase to reach the knockout rounds of the competition for the first time.

Wolfsburg could have been paired with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal or Juventus in the last 16, but Allofs believes that there is a good chance to progress into the quarter-finals following their kind draw.

"We are very pleased. Our two clubs are meeting the teams that everyone else wanted to be drawn against," he told UEFA's official website.

"Gent are an unknown quantity, a newcomer in the Champions League. For us, this is an interesting draw, which seems doable – without taking this opponent too lightly."

Wolfsburg are also appearing in the knockout rounds of the Champions League for the first time in their history.
