Manchester United cruise past Wigan Athletic

Manchester United ease past Wigan, running out 4-0 winners courtesy of goals from Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie.

Braces from Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie handed Manchester United a comfortable 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

The visitors broke the deadlock 10 minutes before the half-time interval as Patrice Evra found himself in the Wigan area. His shot was saved by Ali Al-Habsi, but Hernandez was on hand to turn in the rebound.

This lead was doubled two minutes before the break as Van Persie controlled Hernandez's effort before turning a curling a fine effort past Al-Habsi.

Hernandez squandered the chance to double his personal tally just past the hour mark having been found by Ashley Young's cross, lifting his effort from close range over the crossbar.

He did get a second moments later, however, as Van Persie's free kick deflected into the path of the Mexican, who made no mistake with his finish this time.

Van Persie got a second of his own to seal all three points for the Red Devils two minutes before full time, firing home Danny Welbeck's pass from close range.
