Callum McManaman strike seals Wigan Athletic win

Callum McManaman scores the decisive goal for Wigan Athletic after Bolton Wanderers overturn a 2-0 deficit.

Wigan Athletic have survived a comeback from Bolton Wanderers to clinch a 3-2 win in Uwe Rosler's first Championship match in charge of the team.

After a bright start by the home side, Ben Watson fired Wigan ahead from the spot in the 11th minute after Matt Mills had handled the ball.

Nick Powell extended Wigan's advantage shortly after with an overhead kick from the centre of the box after Chris McCann had seen his effort blocked, while Powell had another effort saved two minutes later.

Bolton began to see more of the ball towards the end of the first half, but created few chances, with Joe Mason having his effort saved by Scott Carson, before a header from Andre Moritz was cleared off the line.

The Trotters came out fighting at the start of the second half, as Moritz tested Carson just three minutes after the restart.

However, it was a cross from Moritz that got the visitors back into the game in the 49th minute, as his delivery fell for Neil Danns, who was able to head in from close range.

Moritz continued to torment the Wigan defence, having a further effort saved before looking to set up Danns again, but the midfielder needed a penalty to get the visitors back on level terms, converting from the spot after Lee Chung-Yong was brought down by Emmerson Boyce.

However, Bolton were level for just four minutes as Callum McManaman managed to slot the ball home from a corner, while Powell came close to grabbing his second of the game with a headed effort just two minutes later.

Mason had a chance to get the Wanderers back on level terms again late on, but his finish from a Moritz cross drifted just wide.

Jermaine Beckford, who came on as a substitute towards the end of the match, also tried hard for the equaliser late on, testing Carson in stoppage time, but the hosts were able to hold on for the win.
