Wigan Athletic will reportedly appoint Owen Coyle as the club's new manager on a 12-month rolling contract.

Wigan Athletic are reportedly poised to announce former Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle as the club's new manager.

The Scotsman and former England boss Steve McClaren were thought to be the two main contenders for the position left behind by Roberto Martinez, who opted for a move to Everton.

While there is yet to be any official word from Wigan, it is believed that Coyle impressed chairman Dave Whelan in an interview on Sunday and will be offered a 12-month rolling contract, according to Sky Sports News.

The 46-year-old has been out of work since he was dismissed by Bolton in October last year.
