Sunderland's Sam Allardyce eyes West Ham United defensive duo?

West Ham United centre-backs James Tomkins and James Collins are reportedly a target of Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has reportedly made James Tomkins and James Collins his main defensive targets for next month's transfer window.

It is believed that the former Hammers boss is eager to bolster his numbers at centre-back, with concerns over the form and fitness of current options John O'Shea, Younes Kaboul, Sebastian Coates and Wes Brown.

According to The People, Tomkins is Allardyce's preferred choice, but the 26-year-old's £10m valuation may be beyond the Black Cats.

However, the report adds that the Wearsiders may have more luck in their pursuit of Welsh defender Collins.

The 32-year-old will be out of contract at Upton Park in the summer and could be available for a knockdown fee.
