West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan has claimed that the signing of Angelo Ogbonna shows the ambition of the club.
The 27-year-old defender joined the Hammers from Italian champions Juventus on Friday for a reported fee of £9m.
Sullivan believes that Ogbonna's arrival at Upton Park is a statement of intent ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
"He is a great signing for the club and shows the ambition we have getting yet another international player for a sizeable fee," he told their official website. "I think this strengthens us in a department we have had injuries in season after season and been left short."
West Ham are in pre-season action later today when they face Peterborough United at London Road Stadium.
