West Ham United boss David Moyes questions length of Arthur Masuaku ban

West Ham United manager David Moyes questions whether defender Arthur Masuaku deserves to be handed a six-match ban for spitting at Wigan Athletic attacker Nick Powell.

West Ham United manager David Moyes has suggested that he has mixed feelings over the length of Arthur Masuaku's six-match ban for spitting.

On Saturday afternoon, Masuaku was sent off for spitting at Wigan Athletic forward Nick Powell, behaviour which Moyes described as "despicable" and for which Masuaku apologised a day later.

Moyes has acknowledged that Masuaku deserves to be punished for his actions, but the Scot has questioned whether the left-sided player should be sidelined for more than six weeks.

At a press conference, the 54-year-old told reporters: "I don't think six is guaranteed, three is the mandatory I think and then they decide after what happened.

"You're right, we saw some terrible tackles we have had some against us in recent weeks as well. I don't think Arthur, in any way, spat in the boys face, he did it more in a disrespectful manner, it's not for them to make that decision.

"It's wrong, 100% wrong and I hope it is looked at correctly. I don't think it warrants a six game ban but if he does get that, he gets what he deserves."

Masuaku is currently scheduled to return when West Ham host Manchester United on March 18.
