West Ham United's Cheikhou Kouyate has red card rescinded by FA

The FA rescinds the red card issued to Cheikhou Kouyate in West Ham United's FA Cup match against Blackburn Rovers.

The Football Association has announced that West Ham United have been successful in their appeal against Cheikhou Kouyate's red card.

The 26-year-old was given his marching orders by referee Jonathan Moss in the 75th minute of the Hammers' 5-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

The midfielder was deemed to have denied Adam Henley a goalscoring opportunity, but West Ham co-chairman David Gold contested the decision, and the FA has agreed with him.

A statement from the English governing body read: "Cheikhou Kouyate's one-match suspension for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity has been withdrawn with immediate effect following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today.

"West Ham United's claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to their Emirates FA Cup fifth round proper tie against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday February 21, 2016 was upheld."

Kouyate will now be available for Saturday's Premier League match against Sunderland at Upton Park.
