West Ham United won their first home Premier League match of the season by beating Newcastle United 2-0 at Upton Park this evening.
Dimitri Payet gave the Hammers the lead in the ninth minute when he curled an effort from the edge of the box into the top corner.
The Frenchman doubled their tally three minutes into the second half with a close-range finish, after a shot from Victor Moses had crashed against the bar.

Good evening everyone! We've had some great matches in the Premier League this past weekend, but there's still one game to go, as West Ham United welcome Newcastle United to Upton Park.
The Hammers have had a mixed start to the season, with two wins and two defeats from their first four league games. They have also suffered an early exit from the Europa League, but have recorded surprise victories over Arsenal and Liverpool away from home.
Making the trip to Upton Park are a Newcastle side who are yet to win a league game under Steve McClaren. The Magpies have not found the net in their last three top flight fixtures, with their new signings struggling to hit the mark.
The team news has just arrived from Upton Park so let's see which players will be starting this evening.

There we have our teams for this evening's match. Let's begin with a look at the hosts, who have named Victor Moses in the starting XI, following his loan move from Chelsea. Diafra Sakho is chosen to lead the line, with Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet also in the attack, while Andy Carroll is on the bench, after recovering from a knee injury.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have made just one change to the side that were beaten by Arsenal last time out. Papiss Cisse is brought in to replace the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic, with Georginio Wijnaldum and Florian Thauvin completing the attack.
It has certainly been an eventful start to the season for West Ham, who began their campaign at the beginning of July in the first round of the Europa League. However, their run in the competition was ended in the first week of August following a 4-3 aggregate defeat to Astra Giurgiu.
They faced Arsenal in their opening Premier League match three days later and many were predicting the worst for Slaven Bilic's side. The Hammers proved their doubters wrong, though, as they claimed a shock 2-0 win to leave the Emirates stunned.
That result perhaps raised the expectations of the supporters as the club faced Leicester City in their first home league outing. It did not go according to plan, as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat, and a week later they were beaten at home again in a thrilling 4-3 loss to Bournemouth.
In their previous outing before the international break they made the trip to face Liverpool, who had not conceded a goal in their opening three games. That all changed when Manuel Lanzini scored in the opening minutes and Mark Noble and Philippe Coutinho added two more as they won their first match at Anfield since 1963.

Since that match the Hammers have added a number of new faces to their squad. Alex Song has arrived for a second spell on loan from Barcelona, while Victor Moses has joined on a season-long deal from Chelsea. Nikica Jelavic and Michail Antonio also joined, on what was a busy final day of the transfer window.
Let's take a closer look at the visitors now, who have endured a tough start to life under new manager Steve McClaren. They have not won any of their four matches in the Premier League, with their only success in the past month coming against League Two outfit Northampton Town in the Capital One Cup.
The Magpies invested heavily in their playing squad over the summer and splashed out over £50m on new signings including strike duo Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic. The former opened his account for the club in their opening league game, as they shared an entertaining 2-2 draw with Southampton at St James' Park.
They struggled in their first away match a week later against Swansea and finished with 10 men as they lost 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium. Another match without finding the net followed at Old Trafford in their next outing, but they did manage to hold Manchester United to a goalless draw.
A 4-1 win in the League Cup against Northampton gave the fans something to cheer a few days later, but they were then beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at the weekend. Once again the Magpies had a player sent off, with Mitrovic seeing red in the early stages for a stamp on Francis Coquelin, that has ruled him out of today's game.

West Ham don't have the best record against Newcastle in recent years and they have only won three of the last 19 games between the clubs. However, they did claim a 1-0 victory in last season's clash at Upton Park, with Aaron Cresswell scoring the winning goal on that occasion.
It was Newcastle who came out on top against the Hammers on the final day of last season, in a must-win clash at St James' Park. The Magpies were in real danger of going down, but goals from Moussa Sissoko and Jonas Gutierrez earned them a 2-0 victory to retain their top-flight status.

KICKOFF! We are underway at Upton Park!
There hasn't been too much action on the pitch in the opening stages of the match, which will suit a number of fans who have yet to arrive at the ground. There has been huge problems with traffic in East London this evening, and West Ham even tried to have the kick off delayed by 15 minutes, but that suggestion was rejected.
The atmosphere inside of Upton Park is very subdued and it seems to be having an effect on the players. A number of passes from both teams have gone astray and we are yet to see any positive attacking play at either end of the pitch.
GOAL! West Ham 1-0 Newcastle (Dimitri Payet)
It hasn't been the greatest of starts to the match, but West Ham take the lead with a goal of the highest quality. Payet is the man who finds the net, as he is picked out by Noble on the edge of the box, before bending a superb strike into the top corner and out of the reach of Krul.
Newcastle have seen plenty of the ball since conceding, but they have not yet been able to trouble the home side's defence. They look a bit short of options at the moment and are seeing their attacks break down as they enter the final third of the pitch.
Aside from Payet's well-taken goal, there has been a real lack of quality from both teams this evening. They are each giving the ball away cheaply in some promising areas, with Newcastle struggling to get out of their own half at the moment.
CHANCE! Moses springs into life down the wing and bursts past a couple of chances before delivering a low ball into the box. Following a scramble, Sakho manages to lay it off to Payet, but the Frenchman can only fire his low effort wide of the post.
SAVE! Massive chance for Newcastle to grab an equaliser as a poor touch from Wijnaldum ends up running through kindly into the box for Janmaat. The Dutchman then tries to guide an effort into the corner, but Randolph spreads himself well and makes a fine block.
We've just seen Andy Carroll warming up on the touchline, and he receives a huge round of applause from the West Ham fans. Of course, he started his career at Newcastle and his former club could do with a few of goals at the moment.
SHOT! Payet has shown some great touches this evening and he spins away from his marker with ease before finding Lanzini. The Argentine then takes a touch to get the ball out of his feet, before lashing in a powerful drive, but his effort flies high over the bar.
SHOT! Down the other end of the pitch another chance goes to waste, as Haidara blazes wildly into the stands. He never really looked confident taking on the strike and perhaps should have kept the move alive with Cisse ahead of him.
YELLOW CARD! Colback deservedly picks up the first booking of the evening for a trip from behind on Kouyate.
The Magpies are enjoying a good spell in the match at the moment and they are keeping the ball well between their midfield and defence. They are still lacking a cutting edge in the final third and it is clear to see why they have struggled in front of goal so far this season.
Once again the visitors see plenty of the ball and they manage to work it out wide to Thuavin. The Frenchman then whips a delivery into the box, but it is too far ahead of Cisse, and Randolph is able to claim with ease.
West Ham look as if they may have a problem, as Ogbonna is down after coming across to challenge Janmaat. It doesn't look as if he will be able to continue and Jenkinson is getting ready to take his place.
SUB! Jenkinson does indeed make his way onto the pitch for the injured Ogbonna.
CHANCE! West Ham almost open up a two-goal lead just moments before half time. A quick break sees Payet charge through the midfield, before he plays the ball into Moses, who had made a run ahead of him. The winger is at a slightly tight angle as he takes on the shot, but he completely mishits the ball and blazes it well wide of the post.
There is going to be just one minute added on before the break.
HALF-TIME: West Ham 1-0 Newcastle
It's half time at Upton Park and West Ham have the lead over Newcastle. A fine strike from Dimitri Payet is what separates the teams, but in truth, there has been little else to get excited about in East London this evening.

Despite trailing, Newcastle have actually seen much more of the ball and they have amassed 61% of the possession. They have also had five shots on goal, compared to four from West Ham, but only one of their efforts have found the target.
If West Ham manage to hold on and claim the points this evening then they will move up to fifth in the Premier League table. At the moment Newcastle are languishing in 19th place, but if they concede again they will drop below Sunderland and into the bottom spot.

What a great start to the second half for West Ham, who double their tally for the evening. Moses latches onto a ball over the top and bursts clear of the defence, before cutting onto his right foot and firing in a powerful strike. His effort then crashes off the bar, but Payet arrives to slot the ball in from close range for his second of the night.
McClaren will be furious at the way his team allowed Moses to race clear from the halfway line and his team talk at the break will have quickly gone to waste. The Hammers are sensing that there could be more goals in this for them, and their pace is causing the visitors a huge amount of problems.
Half a chance for Newcastle, as a cross from Sissoko is missed by Tomkins and drops kindly to Cisse on the edge of the box. However, the forward snatches at the attempt and he ends up poorly scuffing the ball well wide of the target.
YELLOW CARD! Janmaat is the second Newcastle player to be booked this evening for catching Kouyate with a late challenge.
SUB! West Ham are going to make their second change of the evening, with Obiang coming on for Lanzini.
SUBS! Newcastle are going to make a double change now, as Perez and De Jong come on to replace Anita and Thauvin.
Newcastle will be hoping that their recent changes can help to inspire them, as they are lacking real quality in the attack. They have still only managed just one shot on goal, with the Hammers looking rather comfortable at the back.
SAVE! Despite playing at full-back, Janmaat has been Newcastle's biggest attacking threat this evening. The Dutchman comes close again when he is picked out inside the box and drives in a low strike, but Randolph gets everything behind the ball to turn it away for a corner.
SHOT! Perez almost gives away a penalty when he brings down Noble a few inches outside of the box. The resulting free kick is then taken by Cresswell, who tries to fire an effort past Krul at his near post, but his shot smashes into the side netting.
If Newcastle want to pull off a late fightback then they surely need a goal soon, but they don't look like finding the net at the moment. So many of their moves have broken down just outside of their opponents' box and Randolph has not been tested too often.
Even though they aren't seeing an awful lot of the ball, West Ham look the team more likely to score the next goal. The pace of Moses and Payet is still causing the Newcastle defence a number of problems and they do look very open at the back.
SUB! Newcastle make their final change of the evening, with Aarons coming on for Wijnaldum.
SAVE! This is a good spell in the match for Newcastle and they are putting the Hammers defence under a great deal of pressure. They almost manage to pull a goal back when De Jong twists inside the box and fires in a strike that takes a deflection and forces Randolph to tip the ball over the bar.
CHANCE! It's almost a third for West Ham as Payet finds Reid in acres of space on the edge of the box following a corner. The defender then fires in a low drives that takes a deflection and almost runs through to Sakho, but Krul gets there just in time to prevent another goal.
SUB! Carroll makes his long-awaited return from injury in place of Moses.
There are going to be at least three minutes of stoppage time.

The final whistle blows at Upton Park and West Ham have comfortably seen out the match to claim a 2-0 win over Newcastle. Dimitri Payet will grab the headlines after scoring both of the goals, as the Hammers pick up three points at home for the first time in the Premier League season.
