Romelu Lukaku instrumental as Everton seal comeback win at West Bromwich Albion

Romelu Lukaku scored a brace and provided an assist as his Everton side completed a remarkable turnaround at West Bromwich Albion, coming from two goals down to seal a 3-2 win in Monday night's Premier League clash at The Hawthorns.

The first half-hour of the game saw little action, with both sides playing cautious football, though the hosts suffered a setback when Jonas Olsson had to be substituted following an apparent ankle injury.

Ross Barkley weighed in with the first concrete chance of the match when he latched on to Gerard Deulofeu's cross, but he proceeded to slice his shot wide.

Everton enjoyed a good spell with a number of efforts threatening the West Brom goal, but three minutes before the break the deadlock was broken when James Morrison laid the ball off to Saido Berahino, who slotted home from close range to put the hosts ahead.

The Toffees set about trying to get back on level terms, with James McCarthy and Ty Browning weighing in with chances on the stroke of half time, but the Baggies hung on to their lead at the break.

In the 54th minute West Brom went on to double their lead through Craig Dawson, who made the most of some lacklustre defending to plant a header into the net from Chris Brunt's corner.

Just two minutes later, however, Roberto Martinez's charges halved the deficit, with Lukaku nodding home Deulofeu's pinpoint cross to give the visitors hope of claiming something from the game.

The former West Brom loanee was then instrumental in edging his current side back level in the 75th minute as he held off his marker to slide a pass over to Arouna Kone, who rifled past Boaz Myhill from seven yards out.

Everton completed a remarkable turnaround with just six minutes left in the game, Lukaku scoring his second by beating two defenders to Deulofeu's cross and firing home from two yards out, though the ball appeared to ricochet off his hand prior to his goal.

It proved to be the matchwinner as the Toffees clinched their first win following a two-goal deficit since 1994, when the Merseyside outfit beat Wimbledon in the final game of the season to secure Premier League survival.
