Watford confirm the appointment of Premier League title winner Claudio Ranieri as the club's new head coach on a two-year contract.

Watford have confirmed the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as the club's new head coach.

The Premier League title winner had been out of the game since June after ending his stint with Serie A side Sampdoria and returns to England two years after his departure from Fulham.

The Hornets' previous manager Xisco Munoz was relieved of his duties on Sunday with the club sitting 15th in the table, and they have moved quickly to appoint his veteran successor.

On Monday afternoon, Watford confirmed that Ranieri had taken the reins on a two-year deal, with his first game in charge coming against Liverpool on October 16.

The 69-year-old left Sampdoria after winning 15 of his 38 games in charge during the 2020-21 season, and he will be joined at Vicarage Road by assistant coaches Paolo Benetti and Carlo Cornacchia.

Ranieri has overseen 225 Premier League games during previous spells with Fulham, Leicester City and Chelsea, winning 107 of them.
