Ian Rush: 'Gareth Bale deserves biggest stage'

Former Wales striker Ian Rush believes that it would be a "shame" if Gareth Bale misses the chance to play at a major tournament during his international career.

Former Wales striker Ian Rush has claimed that it would be a "shame" if Gareth Bale fails to play at a major tournament during his international career.

The winger, who has scored 25 goals for club and country this season, boosted Welsh hopes ahead of Friday's World Cup qualifier with Scotland by shaking off a virus to train with teammates on Thursday night.

"There's no doubt he deserves to play on the biggest stage with Wales because he is such a great player," Rush told The Mirror.

"I'd love to see him make it to a World Cup or European Championship, and it would be a shame if it didn't happen for him."

Rush missed the chance to feature at a major tournament for Wales during the 16 years that he played for his country.
