Tranmere Rovers boss Ronnie Moore rues James Wallace red card

Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore claims that his side would have defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers had they not been reduced to 10 men.

Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore has insisted that his side would have defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers on New Year's Day had James Wallace not been sent off.

The midfielder was dismissed one minute before half time with Rovers leading 1-0 through Ryan Lowe, but Wolves found an equaliser through David Edwards in the second period.

"To get a point is fantastic for us and if James Wallace hadn't of been sent off I believe we would have won the game," Sky Sports News quotes Moore as saying. "It's a result that puts us in the right direction.

"We started nice and bright and we bossed the midfield in the early stages. I don't know if James should have gone for that challenge, I will need to look at it again. But we had a great chance to beat a top side in this division and we have thrown it away really.

"In the end we were hanging on a bit but I am pleased with the effort and commitment that we put in overall. If we keep showing that effort and commitment then the crowd will always be behind us."

The result leaves Tranmere in 20th place in League One, while Wolves sit in second, three points off the top spot.
