Swansea City boss Garry Monk praises Roberto Martinez for play style change

Garry Monk praises Everton manager Roberto Martinez for a change in style of play this season ahead of his side's Premier League clash with the Toffees.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has praised Everton boss Roberto Martinez for a change in style of play this season.

Everton have so far lost just once this term, and convincing wins against Chelsea and Southampton mean the Merseyside club are currently seventh in the Premier League table.

With the Swans facing the Toffees at the Liberty Stadium later today, Monk says that has been left impressed with Martinez's adjustments.

"They have slightly changed. You've seen them playing counter-attack at times this season, you've seen them playing possession football and you've obviously seen them playing direct too which you did not see so much last season," he told reporters.

"Especially the counter-attacking. The way they've performed makes them a strong team. That's credit to Roberto and the team. If you look at their performance against Tottenham, Southampton away, they played counter-attacking and against Chelsea at home last week they defended very well when they had to then attacked.

"They have gone direct with the strength of Lukaku and Kone, but they have got their possession game as well. They have varied it up which is different to what Roberto has done before at his other clubs."

Like Everton, Swansea have also started the season impressively and are currently 8th with two wins, two draws and one defeat.
