Stoke City have continued their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw away to German club Greuther Furth.

Michael Kightly started his Stoke career in a perfect way by reacting well to Peter Crouch's header before calmly finishing from close range.

Furth were almost level midway through the first period when Tobias Mikkelsen unleashed a powerful effort from 30 yards to force Asmir Begovic into an acrobatic save.

Stoke gifted their opponents another chance to score before half-time when the referee awarded a penalty to the Bundelsiga side for an apparent foul from a Potters defender as a Furth corner was taken.

Bernd Nehrig stepped up to take the penalty and easily slotted the ball past Begovic with five minutes of the first half remaining.

Chances were harder to come by for both teams after the break but Crouch could have put his side ahead from a corner but his header flashed past the post.

Thomas Sorensen replaced Begovic at half-time and the Danish goalkeeper had to keep out a curling 25-yard free kick from Sebastian Tyrala to ensure Stoke a draw from their visit to Bavaria.
