Midfielder Lyons wins appeal against dismissal on St Mirren debut

The on-loan Blackburn player was sent off just 28 minutes into his first appearance for the Buddies after being shown a second yellow card.

New St Mirren midfielder Brad Lyons has successfully appealed against the red card he received on his Buddies debut.

The on-loan Blackburn player, 21, was shown a second yellow card just 28 minutes into his first appearance for the club during Saturday's William Hill Scottish Cup clash with Alloa.

Referee Don Robertson felt the Northern Irishman had dived while going past Wasps skipper Andy Graham and the decision left Saints' chances of progression hanging by a thread as they fell two goals down to a side managed by former Paisley favourite Jim Goodwin.

But three goals in the last 22 minutes saw Oran Kearney's men fight back to set up a fifth-round date at home to Dundee United and Lyons will now be eligible to feature after his second booking was wiped out at a Scottish Football Association fast-track disciplinary hearing.

Saints said in a statement: "St Mirren Football Club is pleased to confirm that we have successfully appealed Brad Lyons' second yellow card from Saturday's Scottish Cup tie against Alloa Athletic.

"The midfielder was shown a second booking for perceived simulation. But following a hearing this morning, the booking has been overturned meaning Brad will be available for our fifth-round tie against Dundee United."
