Jan Vertonghen 'hopes' that Gareth Bale opts to stay at Tottenham Hotspur next season.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is keeping his fingers crossed that "amazing" Gareth Bale remains at White Hart Lane.

The Wales international, who has netted 17 goals for Spurs so far this season, has been linked with a possible switch to La Liga with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

"He's an amazing player, everybody can see that," talkSPORT quotes Vertonghen as saying. "I hope he stays next season as well."

Bale added to his Spurs goal tally in last night's 2-1 victory over Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League round-of-32 clash.
