Schalke 04 are said to be planning a £12m move for Tottenham Hotspur's Rafael van der Vaart this summer.
The 29-year-old Dutchman is good friends with Schalke forward, and compatriot, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Huntelaar has been offered a new contract to stay in Gelsenkirchen, but The Sun reports that he has told the Bundesliga club that they must pursue the Spurs playmaker in order for him to commit to the deal.
Schalke are believed to be happy to bow to Huntelaar's demands and are willing to pay Van der Vaart in excess of £100,000 a week.
Van der Vaart scored 13 goals in 39 appearances for the White Hart Lane club last season.
