Southampton have reportedly been knocked back in their pursuit of Andros Townsend after submitting a £12m offer to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Saints are believed to have lodged the bid over the weekend as they try to seal more additions before the deadline in a week's time.
According to Sky Sports News, Tottenham have turned down the offer because they want to keep the England international at White Hart Lane.
Some reports have suggested that manager Mauricio Pochettino is willing to let the 23-year-old leave the North London outfit, but it is believed that an earlier offer of £10m from Southampton was also rejected this month.
Southampton are rumoured to be considering tabling a third bid for Townsend.
