Harry Winks intends to follow in "world-class" Harry Kane's footsteps

Harry Winks admits that "it would be nice" to be considered among the best midfielders in the world, but acknowledges that he still has "a lot of work to do".

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has admitted that he wants to receive the same adulation felt by Harry Kane following a solid breakthrough campaign in the Premier League last time out.

The England Under-21s international was used regularly from the bench by boss Mauricio Pochettino in 2016-17, while also making four appearances in the Champions League.

Winks intends to become a real fan favourite in North London alongside fellow academy graduate Kane, who he believes is already a "world-class" talent after topping the Prem scoring charts for two seasons running.

"Not only is he a world-class footballer he is a top person as well," The Mirror quotes him as saying. "He works hard, he leads by example and he is a nice person to talk to as well."

Asked if that is the level he aspires to reach, Winks added: "It would be nice. I still know myself that I've a lot of work to do. I've had one good season, in my opinion.

"But it's important to keep working to maintain it like Harry has for the last four years. It's important to stay humble, stay level-headed and keep working hard."

Winks came on as a late sub in the Lilywhites' 2-0 win over Newcastle United in their opening game of the 2017-18 season.
