Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has said that he feared the worst as medics battled to save Fabrice Muamba's life.

The 65-year-old believes that the Bolton Wanderers midfielder is lucky that the incident happened at a Premier League ground, surrounded by medical experts.

"When they were pumping his heart, we realised just how desperate it was," said Redknapp. "I feared the worst. None of us could believe what had happened. Everyone was shocked.

"The lucky thing for Fabrice was that it was at a Prem ground. If it had been a Sunday morning footballer or non-league, I do not think he would have pulled through.

"It was obviously a problem that was there so it was lucky it happened where it did as the medical people were fantastic."

The 23-year-old remains in intensive care at London Chest Hospital.
