Wales boss Chris Coleman says that he is 'surprised' by Chris Waddle's comments that Gareth Bale should focus more on his club career.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has criticised Chris Waddle for claiming that Gareth Bale should put all his efforts into his club career.

The 52-year-old recently stated that the prolific winger is more likely to succeed with Tottenham Hotspur than his national side.

"Gareth is passionate about playing for Wales," London 24 quotes Coleman as saying. "When he's here he gives his best, he's either scoring goals or making goals and obviously loves being here.

"You have people who will come out and say things, and it's surprising someone who has played international football as Chris did for England has come out and said things like that."

Bale has netted 11 goals in his last 10 matches for club and country.
