Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino says that "the door is open" as the club offer Ryan Mason their support.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that "the door is open" at the club for Ryan Mason.

Former Hull City midfielder Mason, who played for Spurs before joining the Tigers, was forced to retire on Tuesday after a head injury suffered in January 2017.

Spurs boss Pochettino has offered Mason the club's assistance, after the 26-year-old was left with "no option" 13 months on from fracturing his skull in a challenge with Chelsea's Gary Cahill.

"It is very sad news but he opens a door for his future with his family," the Argentine coach told reporters. "Ryan has been at the training ground in recent days. We have been talking to him with [head of academy] John McDermott.

"He will be successful in whatever he does. He will always be a special player for me. He represents for me this change in all when we arrived at Tottenham. The door is open for me to help him; and the club because we love him and Rachel and George and all his family.

"Don't worry Ryan, you're going to be a successful person outside of the club."

Mason also made one appearance for the England team in his time as a player.
