Spain coach Vincente del Bosque claims that his side are not favourites going into Sunday's 2012 final against Italy.

Spain coach Vincente del Bosque has claimed that his side are not favourites going into the Euro 2012 final against Italy.

Spain will be playing in their third consecutive major international final, but Del Bosque believes that Italy's illustrious history counteracts his side's recent success.

Italy have won the World Cup four times, but haven't won the European Championships since 1968, when only four teams participated in the tournament.

"Italy has won the World Cup four times so we cannot speak of favourites," said Del Bosque.

"It is a final and it is 50-50. That we played each other in the group stages doesn't condition the game at all.

"That day [Italy striker] Antonio Cassano said to my assistant Toni Grande, 'We will see if we meet in the final' and he we are."

Spain have never beaten Italy in 90 minutes in a competitive match, while the two sides fought to a 1-1 draw in their opening match of this year's tournament.
