Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is reportedly planning to make a move for Southampton captain Adam Lallana in January.

Lallana, 24, who spent 13 months under Pardew's guidance at St Mary's, signed a new four-year contract with the Saints last year.

However, according to The Mirror, Pardew wants to buy the midfielder out of that arrangement and is prepared to start the bidding at £5m.

Lallana, who was called up to the full England squad ahead of the September qualifier against Ukraine, has scored twice in 15 Premier League matches this season.
