Mauricio Pochettino has said that pre-season is a "very important" time for Southampton.

The Saints made their first signing of the summer at the weekend, bringing defender Dejan Lovren to St Mary's.

The manager told the club's website: "It's a very important time, it's no holiday. This is a time to work hard because we're setting the objectives for next season.

"[We] work all day, because, not only for us, but for all of the team, this time is very important for the future of the Club and for the next season. I'll stay prepared in pre-season and work hard for us to play against all teams."

Pochettino joined the club in January, taking over from Nigel Adkins.
