Ralph Hasenhuttl concerned as Danny Ings prepares to undergo scan on injured knee

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl reveals that Danny Ings will undergo a scan on his injured knee on Monday.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has revealed that Danny Ings will undergo a scan on Monday to determine the extent of the knee injury that he suffered against Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old was forced off in the latter stages of his team's 4-3 win after landing awkwardly in a collision with Trezeguet.

Ings has twice suffered ACL injuries during his professional career, and Hasenhuttl has suggested that the in-form striker could now be set for another period on the sidelines.

"Danny hurt his knee but we hope it's not too bad, it didn't look good at the time," Hasenhuttl told reporters. "He overstretched his knee and this is always dangerous and he was immediately shouting, 'my knee, my knee'. He will have a scan tomorrow."

Ings has been in excellent form for the Saints during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring five times in seven Premier League appearances, including a strike at Villa Park on Sunday.

Southampton are next in action at home to Newcastle United on November 6.
