Sheffield United and Luton Town have secured their places in the Championship playoffs with victories on Saturday afternoon, Middlesbrough and Millwall missing out in the process.
While the Blades and Hatters went into their concluding fixtures against Fulham and Reading knowing that a win would be enough to finish in the top six, they were also aware that defeat could let in Boro or the Lions.
As far as Sheffield United are concerned, they surprisingly made light work of already-crowned champions Fulham, scoring three goals inside the opening 25 minutes on the way to a 4-0 triumph.
Morgan Gibbs-White, Iliman Ndiaye, Sander Berge and Enda Stevens all got on the scoresheet as the Yorkshire outfit set up a semi-final tie with Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Luton had to work harder for their 1-0 success over Reading, Harry Cornick scoring just before half time to set up a clash with Huddersfield and keep one of the minnows of the division in contention for promotion to the Premier League.
Although the result at Deepdale ultimately proved irrelevant, Middlesbrough went down by a 4-1 scoreline to Preston North End.
The same can be said for Millwall, whose outside chance had already disappeared when Kieffer Moore scored a late goal to secure a 1-0 win for Bournemouth.
