Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws has said sorry for branding his team's defending against Doncaster Rovers at the weekend "as bad as the Holocaust".
The 52-year-old made the remark directly after his side had shipped four goals without reply against Rovers.
However, having considered his comments, Laws has confessed that they were in poor taste.
"I would like to apologise," he told the club's official website. "The use of the word was not intended to cause offence and was used in the heat of the moment.
"It was a poor choice of language to define those emotions and wasn't meant in the true meaning of the word."
Laws returned to Glanford Park for his third spell as manager last month.
