Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has claimed that trying to beat Bayern Munich represented an "impossible task" following tonight's 2-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern sent shockwaves around Europe a fortnight ago by dismantling the Italian giants 7-1 in Rome to all but seal their progression to the last 16 of the Champions League.
Rudi Garcia's side had to do it all again in Munich this evening, but goals in both halves from Franck Ribery and Mario Gotze kept the scoreline to a minimum.
However, De Rossi is satisfied to avoid another mauling and claims that victory was never an option for the Giallorossi tonight.
"It wasn't easy to lose 7-1," he told Sport Mediaset. "We gave our all and took a different approach, admitting they are superior and taking counter-measures.
"We hoped it would be enough to take home a point, but at least we gave a better account of ourselves. [Winning] was an impossible task tonight"
Roma are second in Group E on four points, ahead of CSKA Moscow on goal difference after the Russians beat Manchester City 2-1 tonight.
