Giovanni Trapattoni denies Republic of Ireland exit talk

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni refutes claims that tonight's match against the Faroe Islands could be his last in charge of the national team.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has dismissed suggestions that he could be axed from the national side following a disappointing start to the nation's 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Irish side were thumped 6-1 by Germany last week and defender Stephen Kelly is believed to have been in a bust-up with assistant manager Marco Tardelli following his demotion to the bench against the Germans.

When asked if he thinks that tonight's contest against the Faroe Islands could be his last game in charge of Ireland, Trapattoni said: "Absolutely not. I ask you why? We have started the qualifying campaign and we have lost one game to Germany. There is no reason."

Ireland also experienced a dismal Euro 2012 campaign as they failed to progress from the group stages.
