Rafael Benitez has landed in Madrid as he prepares to officially pen a long-term contract to become the new manager of Real Madrid.
The Spaniard, whose Napoli spell ended with a 4-2 defeat at home to Lazio on Sunday night, boarded a plane to the Spanish capital on Monday morning.
Upon landing in Madrid, Benitez told gathering reporters: "I am enthusiastic and happy. Although there are things that still need to be discussed."
Benitez, who has managed the likes of Valencia, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Chelsea during an illustrious career, has been the strong favourite to take control at the Bernabeu since Carlo Ancelotti was relieved of his duties towards the end of last month.
It is understood that the 55-year-old will be presented to the media at a press conference on Wednesday.
