Xabi Alonso "really looking forward to" Spain return

Real Madrid and Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso 'looks forward' to his international return.

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has revealed that he 'cannot wait' to return to the international fold with Spain.

The 31-year-old has not played for his country since undergoing surgery at the end of last season, but has since returned to the fold for his club.

The central midfielder is in line to start for his country in their upcoming friendlies against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa after being named in their squad last week.

"I am really looking forward to be back playing for Spain," he told reporters at a press conference.

"I want to enjoy a productive season and hopefully, be at 2014 Brazil. I wasn't able to take part at the Confederations Cup and watching it from afar was quite frustrating for me."

Alonso has made 107 appearances for Spain, scoring 15 goals in the process.
