Former Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi joins Reading

Former Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi joins Reading on a two-year deal.

Reading have signed former Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old arrives at the Madejski Stadium as a free agent after being released by Wigan at the end of last season.

Al-Habsi joined Reading on their recent pre-season tour of Thailand, and the club have acted swiftly in securing his services on a permanent basis.

"Ali is exactly the type of experienced goalkeeper that we need at this time and I'm delighted that he has chosen to join us," manager Steve Clarke told the club's official website.

"Ali has good knowledge of the English game both in the Championship and the Premier League. He is a great shot stopper and has already impressed everyone with his abilities in the shooting sessions during training."

Reading get their Championship campaign underway on August 8 with a trip to Birmingham City.
