Thursday's Scottish Premiership predictions including Rangers vs. Celtic

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Scottish Premiership fixtures, including Rangers vs. Celtic.

Aberdeen vs. Ross County (Thursday, 3.00pm)

Aberdeen will hope to see their recent capitulation come to an end when they welcome Ross County to Pittodrie in the Scottish Premiership on Thursday.

After keeping pace with Celtic for most of the season so far, the Dons now look in danger of not even finishing in the top six if current form continues.

We say: Aberdeen 2-2 Ross County

There is seemingly no end to Aberdeen's collapse, and a buoyant Ross County could be unwelcome visitors to Pittodrie this week.

Fresh off the back of a late comeback at the weekend, and a big win on Boxing Day, the away side will fancy their chances of a result against the most out-of-form side in the league.

Hearts vs. Motherwell (Thursday, 3.00pm)

Motherwell are in back action after two devilishly difficult encounters post-Christmas when they go to Tynecastle to face Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Thursday.

Stuart Kettlewell's side were given the unenviable task of facing both Old Firm clubs in the space of three days, but now face a Hearts side who ended the year in dismal fashion.

We say: Hearts 1-2 Motherwell

After seemingly recovering from a woeful start, Hearts have slipped back into a rut, with bottom-of-the-table St Johnstone the only team they have managed to beat in six games.

Motherwell will be keen to show what they can do against similar-level opponents after giving Rangers a very tough afternoon at the weekend, and with the form of Stamatelopoulos, goals are almost assured against a leaky Hearts defence.

Kilmarnock vs. St Mirren (Thursday, 3.00pm)

Two clubs hoping to finish the regular season in the top six meet at Rugby Park in the Scottish Premiership on Thursday, when Kilmarnock host St Mirren.

The visitors enter the matchday in fifth, but Kilmarnock know a win will close that gap to just three points in a congested mid-table.

We say: Kilmarnock 1-1 St Mirren

In one of the most evenly-matched fixtures of the matchday in the Premiership, it is tough to separate these two, who have both shown promising signs in recent weeks.

Killie had taken eight points from a possible 12 before Sunday's defeat, while St Mirren have won six of their last 10 games, so both sides should feel confident of taking something.

Rangers vs. Celtic (Thursday, 3.00pm)

Rangers and Celtic clash at Ibrox in the 444th iteration of the Old Firm derby in the first round of Scottish Premiership fixtures of 2025 on Thursday.

It is merely two weeks since Celtic got the better of their Glasgow rivals in the League Cup final on penalties, and the visitors are running away with the Premiership title.

We say: Rangers 1-2 Celtic

In front of 50,000 raucous Rangers supporters, it will be no simple ask for Celtic to get the better of their rivals here despite the huge disparity in recent form.

Rangers have not shown the bottle in this fixture in recent years though, and a run of one win in 17 versus Celtic is set to go on.

St Johnstone vs. Hibernian (Thursday, 3.00pm)

St Johnstone will hope to bounce back from defeat when they host Hibernian on Thursday at McDiarmid Park in their 21st Scottish Premiership match of the 2024-25 season.

The home side are rooted to the bottom of the table in 12th place with just 14 points and were beaten 4-0 by Celtic on Sunday, while the away team emerged as 1-0 victors against Kilmarnock on December 29 and are seventh with 24 points.

We say: St Johnstone 0-3 Hibernian

Hibs should come into Thursday's clash as strong favourites given their impressive form in the past weeks, and it would not be surprising if they continued their fine goalscoring record.

St Johnstone are unlikely to keep the visitors at bay considering their poor defensive displays of late, and it is difficult to see them taking any points.

Dundee vs. Dundee Utd (Thursday, 5.30pm)

Based only yards apart, Dundee and old rivals Dundee United will welcome in 2025 with a Thursday night clash at sold-out Dens Park.

The Dark Blues come into this Dundee Derby after a morale-boosting victory, while the Tangerines are flying high in the Scottish Premiership standings.

We say: Dundee 1-2 Dundee United

With the Scottish Premiership's third-best defensive record and second only to Celtic in terms of away points so far, Dundee United have a great chance to conquer their city rivals.

Dundee have kept just one clean sheet all season, so they could succumb to derby defeat in their first fixture of 2025.
