Nicky Wroe nets a brace as Preston North End reach the third round of the League Cup for the fourth consecutive season with an emphatic win over Crystal Palace at Deepdale.

Nicky Wroe scored twice as Preston North End reached the third round of the League Cup for the fourth consecutive season with an emphatic win over Crystal Palace at Deepdale.

The former Shrewsbury winger broke the deadlock after just two minutes with a fierce low strike from 12 yards.

Akpo Sodje doubled the hosts' lead from close range on 19 minutes, before Aaron Wilbraham's header gave the Eagles hope eight minutes before the break.

However, Preston's two-goal advantage was restored just moments later by a long-range effort from Jeffrey Monakana.

Wroe completed the scoring in the 63rd minute with a clinical finish from 18 yards.
