The hosts looked the more positive of the two sides early on, as Danilo Pereira missed the target, before the midfielder forced a save from Oleksander Shovkovskiy after a Miguel Layun corner inside 10 minutes.

Dynamo Kiev improved as the first half went on, as Iker Casillas denied Gonzalez with a good save, while Denys Garmash struck the woodwork with a header.

The visitors won a penalty away on 34 minutes when Gianelli Imbula brought down Serhiy Rybalka in the penalty area. Yarmolenko took the spot kick, and fired past Casillas.

Teenage midfielder Ruben Neves came close to an equaliser before half time, as Christian Tello found the stand-in skipper inside the box, but the Portuguese's effort was kept out by Shovkovskiy.

Porto pushed for an equaliser after the break, as Tello dragged an effort wide, before the former Barcelona winger was denied by Shovkovskiy.

Dynamo Kiev added a second goal against the run of play on 64 minutes through Gonzalez, who saw an effort hit the fist of Casillas, only for the keeper's touch to knock the ball backwards into his own net.

The hosts twice came agonisingly close to finding a goal before the final whistle, as Rybalka touched an Andre Andre cross onto his own post, while the midfielder struck the crossbar in added time thanks to a deflection.
