New York Cosmos win North American Soccer League spring title

The New York Cosmos claim a point from their final game of the season against the Jacksonville Armada to clinch the North American Soccer League spring title.

The New York Cosmos have clinched the North American Soccer League spring title following their 3-3 draw against the Jacksonville Armada.

The Cosmos needed only a point to secure the crown and went ahead early in the match through an own goal from Armada keeper Miguel Gallardo, while Hagop Chirishian doubled their advantage minutes later.

In the second half, Pascal Millien got a goal back for Jacksonville and soon notched his second of the game to level the scores.

Lucky Mkosana gave New York a late lead, but they were pegged back once more by Joseph Toby, who earned his side a point, although the Cosmos still secured the title.

"To win it in front of the fans was special," captain Carlos Mendes told the club's official website.

"I think we have some of the best fans in the league, the support matters and obviously we do well at home.

"For us to win the championship here, it's special, so we want to thank the fans of course."

The Cosmos are next in action against MLS side New York City FC in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on June 17.
