Newcastle United are reportedly aiming to negotiate a new deal for Switzerland international Fabian Schar before the Euros start in June.

Newcastle United are reportedly keen to agree new terms with centre-back Fabian Schar before the European Championships start in June.

The 29-year-old has made 17 Premier League appearances for Steve Bruce's side this season but Schar will miss the Toon Army's next three matches after he was sent off against Arsenal on Sunday.

Schar is due to become a free agent at the end of the season as his contract at St James' Park expires, however he does have a clause in his deal that would allow the club to extend his stay in the North-East if all parties agree.

According to The Northern Echo, if the Swiss international is called up by his country to represent them at the Euros this summer then that may have time implications on when a new deal can be discussed.

The same report claims that Bruce has other decisions to make on the futures of Schar's defensive partners Federico Fernandez and Florian Lejeune.

Schar has been at Newcastle since 2018 and has gone on to make 73 appearances for the club.
