Metz have announced that they have parted ways with manager Philippe Hinschberger amid what they describe as a "catastrophic situation" at the club.
The 57-year-old took over the Ligue 1 side in December 2015, returning to a club where he spent the entirety of his playing career.
The Maroons have endured a disastrous start to the new season, however, sitting rock bottom of the Ligue 1 table after losing nine of their first 10 league games.
"Philippe Hinschberger is no longer in charge of the Metz first team. The catastrophic situation the club find themselves in has forced the president of Metz to take stock of these poor results.
"Interim control of the first team is entrusted to Jose Pinot, who is the current reserve team boss."
Metz finished 14th in Ligue 1 last term, their first season back in the top flight.
