Marseille striker Andre Ayew has been ruled out of his side's Ligue 1 clash against Ajaccio on Friday with a knee injury.
The 23-year-old suffered the injury during Ghana's 2-1 defeat to Egypt in a World Cup qualifying playoff tie in Cairo on Tuesday and had to be substituted in the 55th minute.
Further scans conducted in Marseille have revealed that Ayew has sustained a meniscal tear in his left knee that will force him to undergo an operation on Monday.
Media reports in France claim that Ayew could be out for up to eight weeks, although Marseille have yet to confirm the length of his absence.
Ghana progressed to the World Cup finals despite the defeat as they had won the first leg 6-1 at home.
