Nottingham Forest are reportedly in advanced discussions with Cheikhou Kouyate over a move to the club.
The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer this summer following his departure from Crystal Palace.
A number of clubs have been credited with an interest in the experienced midfielder, but according to Football Insider, Forest are at the head of the queue for his signature.
The report claims that the Reds are determined to bring in a proven Premier League performer at this stage of the window and view Kouyate as the ideal acquisition in their bid to avoid the drop.
The Senegal international represented West Ham United between 2014 and 2018 before making the move to Palace, and he represented the Eagles on 141 occasions during his time at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, Championship duo Watford and West Bromwich Albion are allegedly both interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury on loan.
The 24-year-old only made six Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 campaign, and it is understood that he is keen to leave the Foxes this summer in search of regular action.
According to the Daily Mail, both Watford and West Brom are keen to take him on loan for the season.
The report claims that Baggies boss Steve Bruce had been keen to sign Choudhury during his time in charge of Newcastle United and has now reignited his interest in the midfielder.
The former England Under-21s international has made 84 appearances for Leicester in all competitions.

Elsewhere, Hull City are reportedly lining up an offer for Watford defender Jeremy Ngakia.
The 21-year-old is seemingly not in the plans of Hornets boss Rob Edwards for the 2022-23 campaign, which could see him depart before the end of the transfer window.
Ngakia, who still has two years left to run on his contract at Vicarage Road, was not in the squad for his side's 1-1 draw with West Brom in the Championship on Monday.
According to Football Insider, Hull are keen to sign the former West Ham United youngster before the end of the transfer window.
The report claims that the Tigers are lining up a former offer for the defender and are confident of bringing him to the club in the near future.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has said that he would return to Old Trafford "for free" if ever given the opportunity.
The 34-year-old turned out for the English giants between 2010 and 2015, scoring 59 goals in 157 appearances for the club.
Hernandez has been with MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy since 2020, but he has revealed that he would be open to returning to Old Trafford during a difficult period for the Red Devils.
"If United came for me then I'd say 'yes, I'll play for free.' Of course, you know, I'd do that. But I also want to be very respectful to my club. I am playing very consistently and in my mind my conviction is all about winning a championship with LA Galaxy," Hernandez told The Mirror.
"In the future, if things happen then they happen - but in my mind I am 100% with LA."
Man United are currently in the market for a new forward amid the speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's future.
