Manchester United 'to open talks over Nico Zaniolo deal'

Manchester United want to hold talks with Roma over a potential deal for Nicolo Zaniolo, according to a report.

Manchester United will reportedly hold talks with Roma over a potential deal for Nicolo Zaniolo when the two clubs to meet to discuss the future of Chris Smalling.

The centre-back has impressed since joining the Italian side on loan over the summer, and it is understood that the Serie A giants want to sign the Englishman on a permanent deal.

According to Il Messaggero, with the two clubs heading for a meeting, United will attempt to negotiate a move for Zaniolo, who has scored five times in 16 appearances at club level this season.

The report claims that the Red Devils hope that their new-found relationship with the Yellow and Reds will help them beat a number of clubs to the signature of the 20-year-old.

Zaniolo, who joined Roma from Inter Milan in 2018, has scored three times in his last four Serie A appearances while operating as a right-sided attacker.

The youngster also netted twice in Italy's 9-1 win over Armenia during the recent international break.
