Inter Milan attacker Ivan Perisic reveals that he was on the verge of joining Manchester United in the summer before Luciano Spalletti convinced him to stay.

Inter Milan attacker Ivan Perisic has revealed that he wanted to join Manchester United during the summer but was convinced to stay at San Siro by manager Luciano Spalletti.

Perisic was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford having helped Croatia to reach the World Cup final for the first time in their history, but no deal materialised as he remained with the Serie A outfit.

The 29-year-old once again talked up the prospect of moving to a different league in the future, though, having also recently confirmed that it is his "dream" to play in the Premier League.

"I wanted Manchester United and I was about to accept, but I chose to stay because of Spalletti's perseverance in wanting to play an important role, which are fundamental in football," Perisic told Italian journalist Alessandro Rimi.

"In future I would like to play in other countries I hope the Nerazzurri fans understand."

Perisic has been with Inter since 2015, scoring 33 goals in 135 appearances for the club across all competitions.
